Job Title: Communications Coordinator, OFDC

Position Summary: OFDC’s Field Supervision Team is seeking a Communications Coordinator to coordinate editing and vetting of the First Deputy Chancellor’s memo with representatives of the Chancellor’s office, Press Office, Legal, other DOE teams, and community-based organizations (CBOs) as well as serve as a liaison to all DOE offices and CBOs in developing communications plans that are aligned to the protocols for all Central asks of schools and principals. The Communications Coordinator will also support the Senior Director of School Workflow Management and Communications in developing and implementing strategies and recommendations for improvements to DOE internal and external communication channels. Performs related work.

Reports to: Senior Director of School Workflow Management and Communications

Key Relationships: Works closely with all offices and divisions within the DOE, including superintendent teams and Borough/Citywide support staff.

Responsibilities

· Coordinate editing and vetting of the First Deputy Chancellor’s memo with representatives of the Chancellor’s office, OFDC, Press Office, Legal, other DOE teams, and CBOs.

· Plan, coordinate, and edit weekly communications to 1,800+ schools in Principals’ Weekly, and to NYCDOE Borough/Citywide Offices.

· Coordinate with the Chancellor’s Office, OFDC, Press Office, and DIIT to help ensure coherence across multiple internal and external communication platforms.

· Serve as a liaison to all DOE offices in developing communications plans that are aligned to the protocols for all Central asks of schools and principals.

· Develop communications that are clear and actionable for all field staff and schools.

· Develop of standards and policy for communications to the field, schools, and the community.

· Support DOE divisions on timing, project-sequencing, and prioritization across the DOE.

· Work with senior directors on the execution and messaging of confidential and sensitive communications.

· Support with the development and implementation of strategies and recommendations for improvements to DOE communication channels.

· Support offices and advise leadership regarding strategic decisions and impact on principal workflow through implementation of communications channels, tools, and resources.

· Advise other DOE offices on the content and layout of their communications to schools.

· Collaborate with other DOE communications points to develop a comprehensive principals’ calendar.

· Collect and analyze data regarding the volume, content, submitters, and recurrences of items in order to inform communications policy.

· Develop the writing, planning, and communication skills of colleagues.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

2. High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred

· Project management experience and ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.

· Exemplary oral and written communication skills.

· Strong copywriting, copyediting, and proofreading ability; familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style 16/e.

· Ability to collaborate on a team and with a diverse set of stakeholders.

· Creative problem-solver, with the ability to perform thoughtful analysis around important organizational and change management issues.

· Ability to develop effective strategies for influencing the work of others across a complex organization.

· Outstanding organizational skills, responsiveness, and attention to detail.

· Flexible, optimistic approach committed to overcoming obstacles, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

· Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in building relationships with diverse constituencies; able to work collaboratively and cross-functionally.

· Capacity to work under pressure and effectively prioritize in a demanding environment.

· A lens for vetting communications to diverse audiences of district leadership, school leadership, schools, families, and students.

· Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills.

· Ability to stay organized and manage multiple priorities.

· Ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

· Experience or working knowledge of the public sector and/or interest in public education.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $72,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
